0:01 Hi, this is Celine from Chops Consulting, and today I’m going to be recording a video on creating and printing cheques in Leap Legal Canada.
0:10 So the first thing you’re going to want to do is navigate into your matter and then from here I’ve already gone to the Trust Funds tab.
0:17 Typically, you’re not going to be printing cheques in Leap Legal unless you’re going to be paying expenses to suppliers, in which case you can do that from pay expense, or you can also create and anticipate it and pay anticipated.
0:30 Otherwise, you know, most of the time, for example, you’re sending checks to clients it’s going to be from trust. So to do that, you are going to make a payment, and then you’re going to say from your so this is if you’re sending it to clients, if you’re sending it to yourself, you are going to do trust
0:47 receivables. So we’re pretending that we are paying our client. I’m going to select the client from this list. It’s going to populate this address, and if I just click here to populate the matter, and I will say trust refund, whatever the reason is.
1:05 And then in this case we don’t have an available balance. So I’m just going to quickly receive a payment so we can make that payment out of here.
1:13 Okay, I went in and quickly received a payment, so now we’ve got lots of money. So trust refund the amount that you’re going to be sending, I’ll just do a thousand dollars.
1:22 And then payment type, you are going to select check, and if you are going to be immediately sending it to your client you can select payment sent as well.
1:35 Typically we recommend doing that after the thing. To record that we sent the payment. Because of course when you print the payment, the check actually giving the check to the client or actually mailing it is a separate step.
1:45 So that’s why it’s recorded separately. So we have a general check for $1,000, saving clothes, and now we have this payment showing here as a withdrawal.
1:57 So to print the check we’re going to go to our matter, our main matters list, menu, accounting, and then print checks.
2:09 From here we are going to select if it’s a check from general or a check from trust that we’re going to be printing, in this case it’s trust of course.
2:16 And we will then see a list of all the checks that you have created in LEAP but that you have not yet printed.
2:24 So I could do a whole bunch of checks. If I wanted to, however, I am just going to do the one that we created today.
2:34 Just as a quick side note, if you haven’t yet set up your check printing, you can do so by selecting the three dots, check printing settings.
2:41 Choosing your type of check paper that you have, printing a sample just on white paper, holding it up to the light over the check to make sure everything lines up.
2:49 If it doesn’t line up perfectly, you can also adjust the margin and play around with that a little bit until it prints perfectly on your check paper.
2:57 Click here and hit print, and if you have not connected, okay, so it’ll just connect your printer here based on your computer.
3:07 If you do not have a printer connected, it will just print to PDF, otherwise you can select any printer. That you have connected to your computer.
3:15 Just for it to be able to show you, I can select print to PDF. Again, if you mean it, you can find it sitting off your printers like its own, its own separate thing.
3:25 Select pages, number of copies, you can print a preview if you want, because it’s a PDF. I’m just going to print it, and I’m going to call it, and then it’s going And then it’s gonna say if I want to mark it as sent, I’m going to be immediately stuffing it in an envelope and mailing it to the client,
3:51 so I’m going to select yes. And from here, I’m able to go in to my downloads folder. It’s on my other screen, so you can’t see it, but I’ll go over the checkpoint opening.
4:09 And then now we can see the the check, and it’s either, yeah, it’s ready to print on the check paper now that we can just send to the printer from here. You have now successfully learned creating and printing cheques in Leap Legal!
